The first time I met Kevin was at a Star Trek convention. Trekkies Forever!
It helps that he was a great basketball player.

Not everyone in Sacramento is happy he is Mayor. He was first elected the same day as Obama and I heard some people complaining about "black politicians" as I walked across the K Street Mall.

But I bet even those people are happy that he fought hard to keep the Sacramento Kings. I don't know if any other Sacramento politician could have pulled that off. The new arena should bring life to the K Street, which has been a mess since my family moved here in 1962.

The mall has been paved, plowed, dotted with art, blocked off from traffic, open to traffic, plowed and dotted with trees. Nothing seems to work. But with the arena moving in, the bus depot gone and the cheap, seedy hotels closing, there's a chance that downtown Sacramento will be revitalized like Midtown.
