    Koto at Red Hawk Casino

This is my favorite low to medium price casino restaurant. It's a Mexican restaurant that serves more than Mexican food. You can get burgers and salads. The Mexican is great.

But be sure to leave room for dessert! Their carrot cake is to die for and the individual serving is huge. If you eat dinner and then order dessert, ask for a take home box. The slice is enough for two people, but you won't want to share.

Stage Bar at Red Hawk Casino

I love the live stage. I go to the casino with a group of friends. Some of us spend more time gambling than others. This stage is a great meeting point when the group breaks up and goes to our favorite machines. The music is always great whether its R&B or country.

Karaoke nights are a blast. Most of the singers are actually very good. A few are--well painful to listen to--but nobody cares. It's an excuse to have a good time.

It's small and gets crowded but that's OK too. It gives you a chance to meet new people. It's a friendly crowd. Dance if you want to. Sing along if you like. It's just fun.

  • Kevin Johnson

The first time I met Kevin was at a Star Trek convention. Trekkies Forever!
It helps that he was a great basketball player.

Not everyone in Sacramento is happy he is Mayor. He was first elected the same day as Obama and I heard some people complaining about "black politicians" as I walked across the K Street Mall.

But I bet even those people are happy that he fought hard to keep the Sacramento Kings. I don't know if any other Sacramento politician could have pulled that off. The new arena should bring life to the K Street, which has been a mess since my family moved here in 1962.

The mall has been paved, plowed, dotted with art, blocked off from traffic, open to traffic, plowed and dotted with trees. Nothing seems to work. But with the arena moving in, the bus depot gone and the cheap, seedy hotels closing, there's a chance that downtown Sacramento will be revitalized like Midtown.
