I've taken a few yoga classes at CalFit and recreationally but consider myself a beginner to Yoga and Pilates. Sattva Yoga and Pilates is completely different from what I've experienced before. Its a down to earth place and the full range of classes are mindfully engaging as well as they make you shake, sweat and find that edge physically! The instructors seem passionate about what they do and know how to prompt beginners as well as challenge those students who are more advanced. I especially like how they consistently cue proper body alignment, muscle engagement, walk through the class and gently correct you to the proper positioning as needed. They seem to want to personally help you (even in the group setting) and make sure your body gets worked safely from the inside out.
The other thing I learned about was their Pilates Apparatus and Chair work. It sounds complicated and fancy, but basically, either individually or groups under four, the instructors work with you on specific issues to build strength in areas that are your weakest link. So for me, by working on my foot strength and leg balance, my plantar fasciitis is now gone!
