Mediterranean Market stocks a collection of delicacies and staples from our locality and from around the Mediterranean and the globe. All of you 'Destination Shoppers' out there; come check it out. More than once! If you see something that intrigues you, pick it up! Many things don't stay on the shelf for long. This means several things. One is that freshness is fairly certain, another is that it may not be there the next time you are there. Most things return eventually, but it isn't like a chain store where orders are automatically generated by a computer system; the stock isn't coming from an order fulfillment center. The shelves are constantly being re-filled, but not always with the same things. These hard working Gentlemen Merchants are the Scheherazades of trade. There are often surprises; they will keep you coming back. When you're there, choose from Mediterranean breads and pastries, bulk olives, spices, and unroasted coffee beans, fresh stuffed grape leaves, cheeses and halvah, fresh and commercial hummus. The excellent Halal Meat counter is stocked with Halal beef, veal, lamb, and chicken regularly, with smoked whitefish, turkey and other treats stocked intermittantly. There is a small selecton of frequently used fresh fruits and vegetables, and a larger selection of dried fruits, juices, nuts, candied ginger, and pickles. In the dairy case you'll find the staples; milk, butter, and eggs, but keep looking. The Karoun Dairies products are well represented. You will find among other things yogurt with 6 cultures, yogurt drink, labne, Feta from Greece, fresh Filo dough and much more. They carry a variety of grain products, legumes, canned and bottled staples and treats from around the Mediterranean, flavored waters and syrups, several kinds of honey, Greek and Turkish coffee, Russian tea and herb teas. They stock hookas and tobacco products behind the checkout counter, and when you're there don't forget some fresh dates or Baklava. They serve a tasty lunch "to go" every day except Sunday, which consists of: your own kebab served on a bed of rice and accompanied by tabouleh, hummus and pita. I've never been to the Middle East, but part of me thinks that Mediterranean Market provides a quick getaway, and perhaps the breath of a Souk, (Marketplace to us non Arabic speakers) as the smell of spices and faraway places waft out the door in greeting and farewell.
